Hi Aaron, I woulx like to help test the app. I tried loading sightings on the web last night and they are still 'processing'. My phone (Android) sightings load without location data so I hope the app fixes that too.

Thanks Mike, that was an unrelated issue which is now resolved.

I will get you added to the mobile app test group, thanks heaps!

Hi All,

Just a quick update. People have been added to the mobile app test group.

The app is now just a few days away from being live on the app store for both iOS and Android.

Getting close.

Cheers

Aaron.

Hi Testers,

Today we discovered an issue with iPhones that have "live photos" enabled that was crashing the app.

It will be fixed shortly and an updated version redeployed shortly.

Cheers

Aaron.

My sightings are not getting through.
I have also found the locations are way out, which seems to be a problem again with my Samsung phone picking up phone towers instead of satellites. I think you fixed this with a previous version of the app.
Does the iOS version work with iPad Air?

Hey Mike - I will defer to @Gaelian to respond to this.

Hi @Mike - there's a couple of scenarios in which the app makes use of latitude/longitude coordinates:

1) When you take a photo through the app by tapping the "Take photo" button.
2) When you choose one or more photos you've taken previously from your gallery by tapping the "Select from gallery" button

In the first scenario, the app will request the latitude/longitude coordinates of the phone's current location. The app is requesting "High" accuracy from the phone in relation to these lat/long coordinates, which according to available documentation, and for an Android phone, should be within 0-100 metres of the phone's actual location. The specific degree of accuracy within that range will be very dependent on the exact make/model of your phone and quite possibly environmental considerations such as those you mention.

In the second scenario, the app will attempt to extract the previously saved lat/long coordinates from within the photo. In this case, I would assume that the accuracy of the lat/long will be dependent on your phone's camera app and what level of geolocation accuracy was requested at the time the photo was taken. The original saving of the lat/long coordinates to the photo in this second scenario occurs outside the purview of the NatureMapr app.

To your second question @Mike - we don't currently support iPad, just getting things working on phones at the moment. But this is something we may consider for the future.

Hi All,

The android app has hit the app store. Please give it a go and test it out.

Working perfectly for me first time...

The iPhone app has a small bug which we are addressing tonight, which will be available tomorrow as an update.

Cheers

Aaron.

There are still some problems with the Android test app and going to the test website. Is there a way to transfer my sightings in the test app (unable to upload) over to the main website?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi @Mike - we appreciate you taking the time to help us with testing. I suspect the issues you reported to me earlier today were the result of transient network problems. I will be updating the app to handle a wider range of these kinds of errors more gracefully. The test version of the app is expected to always upload sightings to the test website (excepting the recent errors you reported).

If you wish to upload actual sightings that you want to keep on NatureMapr permanently, it's probably best to download the production version of the Android app, which is now available via Google Play in the usual manner. The production app will appear on your phone separately to the test version. You will be able to tell them apart because the app icons will be different. One will say "TEST" on the icon and the other will not.

Hi All,

iPhone app update has gone live. It's an important update, please ensure you UPDATE the app (or remove and full reinstall) prior to giving it a go.

Worked perfectly for me first go this morning. We are very interested to hear how people get on with it.

Thanks @Gaelian for all the insane amount of work you have put into this. It is brilliant.

Cheers

Aaron.
